Projects & Giving

Powers Church

1927

Restoration and maintenance of the church are funded by many wonderful donors, collections at our four giving services, wedding fees, and tour groups. We have also received grants through the Steuben County Community Foundation. With your generous help, the church will continue to be a historic treasure for our children and grandchildren.

Bell Tower and Steeple Project Completed!

The bell tower and steeple are restored, and they are beautiful. Thanks to contractor Scott Zeeb, the steeple is an exact duplicate of the original, and the bell tower is repaired to match the original. Thanks to the many people, organizations, and churches who donated money to match the grants from the Jeffris Family Foundation and the Indiana DNR Division of Historic Preservation.

Restoration Continues

Work continues on the restoration of the church. This summer, damaged wood will be repaired on the outside of the church and the exterior will be scraped and painted. Thank you for your support of our programs at the church and all of these projects.

Our Past Projects

Wallpaper Restoration is Complete!

The wallpaper restoration for the west wall of the sanctuary is complete, thanks to the genius and skill of Bob Cross, the restoration expert who has worked for many years to complete this project. Bob cleaned and restored the original wallpaper on three walls of the sanctuary in 2006. The wallpaper on the west wall, however, had been destroyed in 1976 because of a large colony of bees that had to be removed from inside the wall. Bob decided to reproduce the original wallpaper on the west wall using a series of stencils. He patiently painted another level of the stencils every few years until the wall was finished last summer. You can see the beginning of the work in 2006 and the finished wall in the bottom picture. We are so grateful for his dedication to this project. Thank you also to the many people who donated to make this possible!
